Helen S. Hahn, age102, died Tuesday morning, March 25, 2008 in the Eastern Star Home-Health Care Unit in Boone. She had been a resident at the Home since January of 1997.

She was born on October 7, 1905 in Miami, Florida, the daughter of John and Ellen (Seybold) Freedlund.

She graduated from Randolph-Macon School for Girls and then the University of Wisconsin in 1928 with a major in Spanish.

Helen translated letters for the Cedar Rapids Engineering Company. She was a homemaker.

She belonged to Chapter LL, PEO, Kings Daughters, the Civil War Roundtable and Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

After living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for sixty years, Helen moved to Boone, Iowa in 1988.

She attended the Evangelical Free Church and was a member of the Boone Garden Club.

Her parents, five brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters; Sally Courter of Boone, Iowa and Margie Fletcher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren Jeff Courter and his wife Meg of West Des Moines, Iowa, John Courter of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Bill Courter and his wife Britney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Anne Conwell and her husband Dale and David Fletcher and his wife Julie all of Dallas, Texas, Ellen Tarry and her husband Albin of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Steve Fletcher and his wife Kristin of North Liberty, Iowa; a niece Nancy Seybold of Orlando, Florida; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating.

Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.

A time of sharing will be held at the Stark-Welin Chapel on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service with the family present to greet frineds from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Evangelical Free Church, 1407 Kate Shelley Drive, Boone, Iowa, 50036 or to the Eastern Star Home-Health Care Unit, 715 W. Third Street, Boone, Iowa, 50036.
