Evelyn Lucile Slade Bailey, 90, formerly of Boone, Iowa passed away at the Northbrook Manor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Monday March 17, 2008 following a brief illness. She had been a resident at the care facility since March of 2004.

Evelyn was born on December 9, 1917 in Sheffield, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Edna (Vanston) Slade.

On December 2, 1939 she married Morris L. Bailey at South Sioux City, Nebraska.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa. In 1995, Evelyn received the Volunteer Award for Human Services from the Governor of Iowa. As a volunteer, she worked with AARP, RSVD, the Boone Cultural Center, as a Tele-Care Caller, as an Elementary School Reading volunteer, and as a Patient’s Advocate at the Evangelical Free Church Home and the Ledges Manor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Morris Bailey, her son Dennis Bailey and her great-grandson Andrew Renken.

Survivors include 2 sons; Roger Bailey and his wife Bobbi of Canton, New York, Ronald Bailey and his wife Vava of Ashland, Oregon; 2 daughters Cheryl Renken, and Virginia Knutson and her husband John all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren Matt Bailey of Cornelius, Oregon, Molly Billow and her husband Jesse, and Austin Bailey all of Eugene, Oregon, Sam Bailey of Greensboro, North Carolina, Stuart Bailey of Alamo, California, Meredith Barberich and her husband Craig of San Anselmo, California, Morgan Bailey of Eagle Rock, California, Eric Renken and his wife Jeanne of Niles, Michigan, Dana Renken, Tim Knutson, Jennifer Maus and her husband Dave, and Kris Noring and her husband Ted all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday morning, March 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, Iowa with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating.

Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel prior to the service on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service with the family present during that time.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be given to New Hope Village in Carroll, Iowa or Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.
