| | | Ross Davis, 90, formerly of 1110 South Marshall Street in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Thursday evening, February 28, 2008. Ross had been a resident at the Home since June of 2006.
He was born on July 6, 1917 on a farm southwest of Ogden, Iowa the son of Roy and Olive (Williams) Davis. He spent his childhood south of Boone on the Ledges Road.
Ross graduated from Boone High School in 1935. He worked on the family farm until his marriage to Velma Boyd on December 24, 1939 at the Christian Church.
In March of 1948, the couple moved to Ogden, where they lived for 32 years, until their retirement when they moved to Boone. Ross enjoyed bowling, square dancing, visiting with friends and loved to farm and raise livestock.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served on various committees and Boards throughout the years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 4 brothers James, Archie, Milo, and John; and 1 sister Marjorie Hoffman.
Survivors include his wife Velma of Boone; 1 son Allen Davis of Boone; a granddaughter Jill Davis of Weehawken, New Jersey; a grandson Steve Davis and his wife Sherry of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister Arabelle Pestonik of Boone; several nieces and nephews.
The body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday afternoon, March 6th at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boone with Rev. John Swoyer officiating.
Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone for a time of sharing from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
on Wednesday evening.
The family will be present at the Chapel on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. to greet friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request a memorial gift may be made to the First Baptist Church in Boone or the Parkinson Foundation.
