The cornerstone of the services our funeral home provides is to assist the families with the loss and in the grieving process. While we cannot offer you a way OUT of grief, we can assist by offering you a way THROUGH the grief journey.

The beginning of the grief recovery process is accepting the reality of the death. The loss of a loved one is traumatic and many times overwhelming. Viewing of your expertly prepared loved one in the comfortable, neutral setting of the funeral home with other family members and friends is an important step in the process. This is a time for open mourning, a time to share. Cry if you want, laugh if you want at the many ways your loved one touched your life. Regardless of the final disposition of your loved one, earth burial or cremation, this crucial beginning step of viewing should not be overlooked.

After the friends and extended family have returned home to their normal lives, we are here to help you move forward with yours. We have teamed with the Bowen Center to offer an innovative Grief Assistance Program (GAP). The program combines the professional experience of the funeral director with a licensed mental health care professional. The program offers a multi-tiered approach to the grief journey that starts with the funeral professional and licensed mental health professional. Then a "Dealing With Grief" program held at Smith and Sons Coach Room. That program brings together those who have suffered a loss in a casual, neutral setting to share feelings and experiences under the guidance of a Bowen Professional. The group program is FREE and open to anyone, regardless of the funeral provider, who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Lastly, limited private, confidential, professional counseling sessions are available at no charge for the families served by the funeral home.

For further information and times of the Group Program, please call us at the listed numbers.
