Jack H. Kessie, 88, of Columbia City, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted on Tuesday, July 24th.

He was born December 17, 1923 in Whitley County, Indiana a son of William H. and Wilda Mae (Grable) Kessie. A lifelong resident of Whitley County, he completed his education Columbia City High School.

On June 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Beulah Mae Holycross. Mrs. Kessie died August 27, 2008.

A truck driver, he retired from STAFCO in March 1993 with 39 years of service.

He was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #98 and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #5582.

Surviving relatives include three children, Gary (Jolene) Kessie of Columbia City, Linda Diane VanVoorst of Fort Wayne and Shirley Darlene Carpenter of Hendersonville NC; four grandchildren, Brent Carpenter, Krista Carpenter, Danyelle Estep and Adam Kessie; four great grandchildren, Michael, Cameron & Ashton Estep and Riley Kessie; and two brothers, Carl "Fritz" Kessie and Dick Kessie, both of Columbia City.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters, Ralph Kessie, Ernest Kessie, Robert Kessie, Paul Kessie, Bill Junior Kessie, Helen Johnson, Betty Gebert, Neva Spangler and Carol Kessie.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Whitley County Humane Society.
