| | | Adrian R. Beers, 89, of Columbia City, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Parkview Whitley Hospital where he was admitted on Wednesday.
He was born September 23, 1922 in Etna Township, Whitley County a son of Keslar R. and Nellie R. (Dobbin) Beers. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1940.
He enlisted in the United States Navy on December 8, 1942, serving during World War II. Following his discharge on November 7, 1945, he returned to his employment in Crestline, Ohio with the Pennsylvania Railroad.
On January 18, 1947 he married Ruth I. Roberts. They made their home in Crestline for two years before moving to Etna Township where they operated the Etna General Store.
A farmer, he also worked at Weatherhead, drove school bus for Etna Troy School from 1968 until 1971, served as Etna Troy Township Trustee from 1972 until 1975 and retired from L. M. & L. in 1984. In 1993 Adrian & Ruth moved into Columbia City.
His memberships include Columbia City United Methodist Church, Etna Men's Breakfast Club and American Legion Post #98.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Lucinda R. Beers and Lynette C. Beers, both of Columbia City; and a grandson, Lance (Tami) Beers of Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery with military honors presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
Preferred memorials are to Columbia City United Methodist Church.
