| | | HELEN M. BARR, 81, died at 3:20 pm Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born on July 23, 1930 in Muncie, a daughter of Elmer C. and Agnes Belle Tighe Holland. Her formative years were spent in Muncie where she graduated from the Muncie Central High School and received an Associates Degree from Ball State Teachers College.
On June 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Henry P. Barr and they made their home in Muncie until 1972 when they moved to Bear Lake in Noble County. Mr. Barr preceded her in death on September 21, 1975.
She had been employed at the Walker's Restaurant in Wolf Lake for ten years, then Dick's Chevy Shack and later at the Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware and Scotts Grocery in Columbia City.
She had been a member of the New Haven Lady Eagles Auxiliary and while a resident of Muncie sang with the Sweet Adeline's Chorus.
The surviving relatives include daughters, Debra (Larry) Hurley, Albion, Michele (Tom) St. John, Albany, IN, Patricia (Phil) Lee, Fort Wayne; a son, Steve Barr, Albion; a brother, Elmer G. Holland, Parker, IN; a sister, Sara Ercoli, Nashville, IN; sixteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. A son, Michael and a sister, Betty Armally preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with the Rev. Dan Carlson, pastor of the Wolf Lake Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery at Merriam. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
