| | | Mildred L. Keel, 93, of rural South Whitley, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at Peabody Home, North Manchester where she had been a resident since December 2010.
She was born February 10, 1919 in Fowler, Indiana a daughter of William Warner and Leafie (Lockhart) VanDeripe. At the age of nine, her family moved to a farm southwest of South Whitley, where she has since resided. She graduated from South Whitley High School.
On July 3, 1945 she was united in marriage to Wilson L. Keel.
A homemaker, she worked a short time at Blue Bell. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Her church membership was with Centerview Community Church.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Wilson; a son, Roger Keel of South Whitley; former daughter-in-law, Diane Keel of Silver Lake; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald D. Keel; a brother, Vernon VanDeripe; and three sisters, two infants and Lois Gladding.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery. The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Centerview Community Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
