| | | Richard A. Doversberger, 85, of Columbia City, died at 2:12 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at Parkview Oaks where he was admitted on March 16th.
He was born July 19, 1926 in Warren, Indiana a son of J. Ezra and Orpha Nadine (Bardsley) Doversberger. His formative years were spent in Warren. He graduated from Warren High School, Ball State Teachers College and Ball State University.
On December 30, 1948 he was inducted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged April 3, 1953.
He taught school in Larwill for a year, worked for RCA in Marion for 22 years, Square D in Huntington for a year, did consulting for Wabash Magnetics for more than seven years and other engineering industries.
He was a member of American Legion Post #98 where he served as Commander in 1983, served as Worshipful Master of Warren Lodge Free & Accepted Mason in 1963 which has merged into Mount Etna Lodge #333 F. & A. M., and served as Grand Marshall of the 99th Old Settlers Day Parade in 2002.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Debra A. Ledbetter of Warren and Cynthia K. (Randy) Cheney of Macon, Georgia; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a brother, John Robert Doversberger of Kingsley, Iowa.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with military honors presented. The burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Warren. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials may be made to Humane Society of Whitley County.
