| | | Garland A. "Red" Watters, 83, a resident of Etna-Troy Township, died at 4:27 p.m. Wednesday at his home, on the same farm where he was born .
He was born December 26, 1928 in Troy Township, Whitley County a son of Murland R. "Jimmy" and Robia E. (Mullendore) Watters. He attended Troy Center School and graduated from Larwill High School in 1946.
After completing his education, he started farming and on October 17, 1951 entered the U.S. Army and served in the Military Police until October 18, 1953. Following his discharge, he returned to the family farm and in 1960, began his employment with Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne, retiring March 1, 1993.
On February 28, 1959 he was united in marriage to Carol S. Moyer.
He was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church and its Men’s Fellowship, and American Legion Post #98.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Carol; a son, Craig A. Watters of Columbia City; a daughter, Stacey E. (Kevin) Wilkinson of Old Lake; two grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Lake of Fort Wayne and Adam J.A. Wilkinson of Columbia City; two sisters, Vivian J. (Eugene) Allen of Fort Wayne and Norma Meyer of Coldwater MI; and three sisters-in-law, JoAnn Geiger of Columbia City, Sara Bauer of Columbia City and Victoria (George) Plotner of Centerville OH.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Troy Presbyterian Church, 6465 West Lincolnway, Columbia City with the Rev. Howard Compton, officiating. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one hour before the service at the church. The burial will be in the Troy Presbyterian Cemetery with the Whitley County Korean War Veterans providing the military honors.
Memorials may be made to the Troy Presbyterian Church, Whitley County Community Foundation or the Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
