| | | Darrel W. Baker, age 57, of Kalispell, Montana, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2008 on his way to work in Kalispell, Montana.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in Kalispell, Montana. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Friday, June 6, 2008, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Wibaux, Montana, with Father Denis Fournier officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in the Wibaux Cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Wibaux is entrusted with local arrangements.
Darrel was born on December 30, 1950 in Wolf Point, Montana to Earl and Doretta Baker. He was raised and educated in Poplar, Montana. He attended Montana State University in Bozeman. He returned to Poplar and worked with his father on the family farm and Electrical Business. He enlisted in the National Guard and served from 1972 until 1979.
On April 23, 1973, he married the love of his life Barbara. They had just recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Together they owned and operated the Gamble Store in Poplar from 1974 until the parent company closed its doors. Darrel then picked up a True Value franchise and continued to operate the hardware store and work for his dad until 1988 when he sold the business and moved to Kalispell, Montana. On September 8, 1987 the joy and second love of his life was born, a daughter Ashley Ann Baker. While living in Kalispell, Darrel continued his education, receiving his bachelors degree in accounting from Flathead Community College. Darrel had been working for LHC Construction for the past 15 years. He took great pride in his work, and the many friends he had at LHC. Darrel loved to travel and he and his family had the opportunity to experience many wonderful times together. He also enjoyed spending time at the cabin on the lake, that he and his brother-in-law had built.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doretta.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Ashley; father Earl (step mother Delores) Baker; sister Karen (Chuck) Dixon, of Missoula; niece Krisha (Larry) Ross; grandnieces Jordan, Raymi and Kelsey all of Anchorage, AK; nephew David (Kristin) Dixon; grand nephews Brody and Cody both of Missoula; sisters-in-law Jennifer (Gary) Kelly, (CA) and their families, Phyllis (Jerry) Goldsmith, (GA) and brother-in-laws, Larry Morgen of Wibaux, MT, Joe(Sara) Morgen (KS) and family; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Brungard of Wibaux, MT. Darrel always said, God decides on the day you are born, and he also decides on the day he will take you home. Although the Angels have called him home, he will be greatly missed by his family, co-workers and friends.
