Raymond R. (Ralph) Brim, 79, passed away on October 28, 2009 at Conroe Regional Medical Center due to complications of previous cancer treatments. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Ralph was the son of Linzie Raymond and Willie Mae Yarborough Brim. He was born April 11, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother H. Don Brim, and his niece Paula Brim.
Ralph married Janie Reagan on June 1, 1952 in Robstown, Texas. They have been married 57 years and have been blessed with four children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Ralph was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He left the Navy, September 26, 1952. He then attended Texas A&M, Kingsville, Texas and graduated with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. He was a member of the Tau Beta Phi and Sigma Tau engineering fraternities. Following graduation, he was employed by Dow Chemical in Lake Jackson, Texas. Ralph transferred to the Dow office in Houston, Texas in 1959. Ralph took early retirement from Dow Chemical in 1982. He was then employed with Apache Corporation from which he took early retirement in June 1986 and worked as a Petroleum Engineering Consultant until June 1991. He and Janie then moved to Elkins Lake, Huntsville, Texas.
Ralph was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville, Texas. He enjoyed being a greeter for many years. He was a devoted member of the Upper Room Sunday School class and a past member of the Church council.
Ralph was a Director for Habitat for Humanity. He was the architect for all the house plans. Ralph served on the City of Huntsville Planning and Zoning Commission for 8 years. He was President of the Elkins Lake Fishing Association from 1991 to 1998 when the association was absorbed by Elkins Lake Recreation. Ralph loved fishing, golf, motorcycles and airplanes. Ralph was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. His grandchildren were very precious to him.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Janie, daughter Phyllis Shaw and special friend Bob Harrison, daughter Pam Turner, sons Ray Brim II and Marcus Reagan Brim, 5 grandchildren, Jackson Brim, John Turner, Charlie Turner, Mary Turner and fiancé Jeffrey Miller, and Elizabeth Turner,
two great-grandchildren, Becky and Kelly Turner, sister-in-law Marie Brim, sister-in-law Marie Robertson and husband Ben, and seven nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home 1700 Normal Park. Huntsville, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 2 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church 1016 Sam Houston Ave. Huntsville, Texas. Pallbearers are: Jackson Brim, Randy Brim, Linn Brim, Jeffrey Miller, Ben Robertson, and Lee Howard.
