| | | Alton McClung, 89, passed away August 13, 2009. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, compassionate and unselfish man.
The son of Callie and Robert McClung, Alton was born in Kerens, Texas on September 22, 1919. He attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a degree in Geophysics. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a B-24 pilot during World War II, where he flew fifty missions in the service of his country. During that time, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with oak leaf clusters and the Bronze Star.
In 1946 he married Kathryn and in 1948 he began a 30 year career with Texaco. At the time of his retirement he was the manager of Offshore Louisiana.
After retiring, Alton moved to Elkins Lake, Texas where he had many friends. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, son Michael and his wife Kathy, daughter Marianne and her husband Jay, and grandson Matthew and his wife Margie.
Many thanks to Dr. Larry Wells and the devoted caregivers at Thee Hospice for the compassionate care they provided in his final days.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 15th at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park, and Huntsville, Texas.
