| | | Thomas Lester Hart, born March 17, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, died peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family and close friends on May 22, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter N. Catherine Hart and husband Philippe Godfrin; son Derrick T. Hart and wife Angela; grandchildren Jessica, Dylan, Marshall, Travis, and Sophia; sister Sue Holsapple and husband Max; sister Linda Hart and partner Lahna Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Lester Hart and mother Marjorie Hart; brothers Jack Hart and James Richard Hart; sister Joann Scott.
Tom was best known for his generous spirit and wonderful sense of humor. He lived his life with these priorities: God, family, and work. He was an Elder at First Christian Church, Huntsville. He retired in 2000 after a 26-year career with Champion International Corporation. At that time Tom and his wife moved back to Huntsville so that he could enjoy life on his ranch as well as his favorite sports of hunting and fishing. He loved classical music. He once was asked why he never listened to popular music. He responded, “I listen to popular music; it just happened to be popular in the 1700s.” He was a member of the 6th class of the Huntsville Leadership Institute. At the end of December, 2008, he completed a 3-year term as President of Walker County United Way.
The family will receive friends at the ranch on Sunday afternoon, May 24, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, 1800 Avenue R, Huntsville, at 10:30am, Monday, May 25. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Walker County United Way, P.O. Box 321, Huntsville, Texas 77342-0321.
