Odessa Josephine “Jo” Allen was born to James Abraham and Retha Elizabeth Fine on January 28, 1914 in Albert, Oklahoma and went to be with her Lord and to join her husband in their heavenly home on March 7, 2009 in Huntsville, Texas.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, O.G. Allen; four brothers and one sister. She is survived by sons, Wayne Allen and wife Barbara of New Waverly, Texas, Troy Allen and wife Ginger of Huntsville, Texas and daughter, Carol Newton and husband Randy of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, John Allen and wife Cindy, Vince Allen and wife Melissa, Mona Kay Bland and husband Michael, Kevin Lunsford and wife Renee, Ty Allen and wife Chancy, Clifford Newton and wife Barbra, and Priscilla Gomez and husband Felix; great grandchildren, Don Michael Lunsford, Chance Allen, Ryan Redden, Trace and Tavin Allen, Colby and Elizabeth Newton and Nicolas Gomez; three sisters; one brother and numerous nieces, and nephews.

Jo and O.G. were raised in Dublin, Texas, married and moved to Houston. She worked in the shipyards and after O.G. entered World War II, she and the children moved to El Campo where she worked at the airport. After O.G. was discharged from the Army, they moved back to Houston where she was a bookkeeper, an excellent babysitter and a superb cook. Jo was always a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, great grandmother, sister, friend, and a good Christian lady. She was a founding member of the Order of Eastern Star, Almeda Chapter #1081 and member of the Bethel Baptist Church in New Waverly, Texas.

Services will be Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00am in the chapel of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Gardner officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am prior to the service.
