James (Jimmy) Goodney, age 74, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on September 1, 2009. His extraordinary life was exemplified by his love of family and friends in faith. Jimmy was born January 17, 1935 in Willis, TX. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, and loved working with his cattle. He enjoyed the outdoors with his many friends. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Shirley Goodney; daughter Darlene and husband Leonard; daughter Sharon and husband James; sister-in-law Dorothy Goodney; grandchildren Cody Reynolds, Jayme Roy Dozier, Karleigh Dozier, Ashley McCall and Christopher McCall; nephew Anthony Goodney; and nieces Dorothia Goodney, Kathleen Goodney, and Christine Cox. He is preceded in death by his parents Stash and Mary Goodney; son James Alan (Jamie) Goodney; brothers Phillip (Nunnie) Goodney and Kie Goodney; and grandson Logan Dozier. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, September 4 from 6-8 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis with Rosary beginning at 7 PM. Funeral Services officiated by Father Daokim Nguyen are scheduled for Saturday, September 5 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly with interment following service at Shepard Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Vinariski, Stan Gilstrap, Jerry Bradley, James Koeing, Donnie Tomkavits, and Larry Belnoski. Honorary pallbearers are Floyd Novark, Philip Wagner, and Brosig Tomkavits. The family gives special thanks to Lighthouse Hospice workers Jennifer Holder, Jackie Gardner, Lakissa, and Lynn Lenert.
