Clarence “Duke” Paulsel was born in Houston on October 4, 1949, and passed away in Conroe on March 30, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by parents Henry and Arneda Paulsel; brother-in-law, John J Pasket, Jr; great niece Rachel Paulsel; and mother-in-law Clarice Irvine. Duke is survived by his wife Judy Irvine Paulsel; children Kirk Alan Paulsel and Kari Nicole Paulsel; brother James Paulsel; sister Joyce Pasket; nephew Mark Paulsel and wife Kay; nephew Johnny Paulsel and wife Tabra; niece Rachel Smith and husband Freddie; great nieces and nephews Abby Walker, Jonathan Hector, Joshua Paulsel, David Paulsel, Ethan Smith and Alyson Smith; Uncles Hervey Paulsel and wife Wanda, and Robert Paulsel and wife Gerri; Aunt Geraldine Merz; other family members, Wesley Irvine, Charlie and Tracy Irvine, Brenda and David Walker, Aaron and Caroline Walker, Matthew Irvine, Bret and Ardith Irvine, Lisa Walker, Brandi and Joshua Hector; and special friend and partner Don Richard Cauthen.
Duke served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Pallbearers will be Don Cauthen, Mark Paulsel, E C Ballew, Charlie Craig, Raymond Klawinski, Pete Salbato, Guy Cook and Joe Mayrant. Honorary Pallbearers are Gene Watkins, Buck Hightower, Bill Wilson, Joe E Short, John V Peet, MD, Jason Laningham, MD; and the coffee gang at the café, New Waverly, TX.
Duke’s wife, Judy, has had her best friends to lean on, Marti, Valerie, Heather and Kathy. In Duke’s last days, he was surrounded by good friends, family and a special caregiver, Mienesha Williams. When the end came near, while under the care of Odyssey Healthcare, he was transferred to Odyssey House, where he found peace and went to see our Lord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Assistance in Healthcare, c/o Cancer Treatment Center of America, P.O. Box 700392, Tulsa, OK 74170-0392.
One of the last conversations Judy had with Duke was about his wishes, one was that everyone dress casual for his celebration of life, and to remember “When you die, you may be gone but you are not forgotten.”
Visitation with the family is scheduled for Friday, April 3 from 5-8 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis. Funeral Services officiated by Rev. Horace Wellons will be held Saturday, April 4, at 11 AM in the Chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with interment following services at Gourd Creek Cemetery in Huntsville.
