About Us

Our funeral home is a family owned and operated business. We are large enough to give our families the same service as the largest funeral homes around, yet we are small enough that each family gets the level of attention and care they deserve.

You will always be met by a warm and welcoming staff member. We take great pride in our service and we are committed to the continuous betterment of who we are as individuals and as professionals.

 Mark Riddle
Sec. / Treas./ Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer
Mark has been around the funeral home most of his life helping his parents whenever possible. Mark was raised in Vermilion and graduated from Vermilion High School in 1995, Purdue University in 1999, and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 2000. Mark believes strongly in a saying his dad once told him “serve each family as if you are serving your own”. Mark is a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, past Board President at the Vermilion Family YMCA, and 2nd Vice President of the Vermilion Chamber. He enjoys spending his free time hunting, fishing, golfing, and training his black lab.
Judith Riddle
President
Judith A. Riddle, with her late husband Larry Riddle, purchased the funeral home from Ed Fisher in 1980. Over the years many physical changes were made to the funeral home, and many positve concepts in funeral service were implemented. Larry died in 1994 and Judy continued to operate the firm. Judy is invoved in community activites including the Vermilion Education Foundation, Rotary, past president of the Vermilion College Club, a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Ohio Funeral Directors, and is past president of the Greater Lorain County Funeral Directors. She is dedicated to carrying on the tradition of excellence in funeral service that her late husband established.
Matt Humphrey
Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer
Matt has been a part of the funeral home team since February 2000. A native Elyrian, graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Matt's dedication to funeral service lies in his belief that every family and visitor to the funeral home should have a "positive and meaningful experience" when facing the reality of death. While still an active part of the Riddle Funeral Home in Vermilion, Matt is co-owner of the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home in Lorain. Matt is also a Certified Funeral Celebrant, officiating 'Life Celebration' services for families who are without church ties or for those who would like to combine both a service of faith with a service that focuses on one's life story.
Margo A. Shultz
Office Manager/Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer
Margo came to Riddle Funeral Home in September 1994 and has been dedicated in providing numerous services to our families. She was raised in Sandusky and has also lived in Cali, Columbia South America. In her 18th year of funeral service, she began following graduation from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science. Locally, she attends Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermilion and St. Mary Catholic Church. She is a member of the Vermilion College Club. Margo and her husband Troy had a son Cody in June of 2003 and second son, Mason in June 2004.
 Dennis (Skip) Wohlever
Funeral Director/Embalmer
Dennis Earl "Skip" Wohlever, 72 of Amherst, died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at his home in Amherst after a lengthy illness. Skip began his career in the funeral service in 1960, served his apprenticeship with the Emmerich Funeral Home and upon completion moved to Bellevue, purchasing the Young Funeral Home in 1962. In 1967 he purchased the Waters-Smith Funeral Home. He and his family spent the next 24 years operating the Wohlever Funeral Home. In 1984 he sold his funeral home in Bellevue and returned to Amherst, purchasing the Dombrowski Funeral Home, which became Dombowski-Wohlever-Volak Funeral Home until his retirement in 2000. He continued to be active in the operations of the funeral home and our Lorain County Funeral Directors Association, even until his death. Skip set an example for us to follow in serving the families of Lorain and the surrounding communities, an example that we take to heart and honor.
