Jacqueline Jenkins, born in Harlem, New York on January 9, 1954 and was the sixth child to the union of the late Mary and James Benbow. She was a devoted mother to Shanequa Del Valle and Robert Jenkins, Jr. and loving grandmother to Emilio Del Valle and Angel Cruz. She adored her children and grandchildren. They were blessings to her and they will continue to honor and cherish her memory.
Jacqueline was raised in Harlem and in the Bronx, New York where she attended Morris High School. After receiving her GED, Jacqueline attended a Clerical Training Program and then Bronx Community College. Thereafter, she began work as a data entry clerk at Covenant House and several years later secured a position as an Administrative Assistant at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. In the Claims Dept at the Waldorf, Jacqueline proved herself to be a hardworking, exceptionally dedicated, employee and was a dear friend to her co-workers.
Jacqueline moved to Poughkeepsie in 1998. After several years of commuting to work in NYC, Jacqueline became disabled. Even while disabled Jacqueline worked as a one-on-one aid in the Poughkeepsie School District where she was actively involved with the Parents, Teachers, Association, Fund Raising and School Events.
Jacqueline’s extended family includes her ex-husband Robert Jenkins, her sisters, Jeanette and Deborah and brothers, Joseph and Johnathan; Four siblings, James Benbow, Juanita Newton, Joanne Sanjurjo and Jean Benbow, preceded Jacqueline in death.
Her extended family also includes a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. As well, Jacqueline leaves behind a host of friends such as Sharon Williams, Aliette Boucharod, Andrea Williams, Denise Wallis, Michelle Richardson, Gail Floyd, Barbara Anderson, Wilhelmina Washington, Gloria Hicks, Tonia Grant and Kim Freeman.
