| Sophia Simmons, 45 as she was affectionately known as Sophie, Cookie and Ms. Sophia was called home to the Lord peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday June 17, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Sophie was born in Beacon, New York on September 22, 1962 to Louis and Ruby Simmons.
Sophia received her elementary education from Astor Head Start, South Avenue and Sargent School in Beacon. She attended Beacon High School were she enjoyed playing Basketball, Cheerleading and Track and Field. She completed her last year at John Jay High School in Fishkill. After graduating in 1985, Sophia went to Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina majoring in Mathematics. She later than worked for IBM in Fishkill the Poughkeepsie Journal in Poughkeepsie and DATA COMM of Fishkill. Her most rewarding and enjoyable position was at Alpha & Omega School. Sophie leaves to cherish her love and sweet memories with her loving son, Javonte Louis Simmons; Parents, Louis and Ruby Simmons; Brothers, Jessie and wife, Ramonita of Beacon, New York and Larry of Georgetown, South Carolina; Sister, Cynthia of New Windsor, New York; Nephews, OS2 Jessie and wife Jessica of US Navy, Virginia Beach, Virginia and Avinash of Beacon; Niece, Tamara of Beacon; Grandnephews, Joshua, Ghamir, Jaden and Riley and Grandniece, Stori; Goddaughters, LaKenya Marie and Mechia and Godson, Robbie all of Beacon. A host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Sophia was predeceased by son, Nihjel Dupre Simmons, Paternal grandparents, Willie and Claudia and Maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Annie Mae Williams. Reverend Ronald O. Perry, Sr., Officiating. Interment will be at Fishkill Rural Cemetery in Fishkill, New York. | ||
