Arvilla Lucille Hansen, 87, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Born January 9, 1917, in Toronto, S.D. she was the daughter of Guy and Ada Hauser McMeekin. On April 15, 1939, she married Elmer Thorlif Hansen in Sioux City. He died in 1999.

Mrs. Hansen's early years were spent in her family's farming and ranching activities in western South Dakota, before she moved to Sioux City as a young woman.

She enjoyed gardening, birding, painting, reading and traveling.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include a son, Robert Hansen of Burlington; a grandson; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City, Iowa 51104, where the family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Hansen will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Roger Maden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of Siouxland.
