Chromium and Stainless Steel |

Chromium is the key element in the formulation of stainless steel from ordinary carbon steel. At normal temperatures, maximum corrosion resistance is attained by chromium content of ten percent. Chromium causes formation of a transparent chromium oxide film on the surface of stainless steel. This protective film is what makes the metal resistant to oxidization and various types of corrosion.
