| | | | Erma J. McCauley, 86, of 27 Sunnyside Ave., Bemus Point, died Monday (March 12, 2012) in Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo.
She was born Sept. 21, 1925 in Bradford, Pa., the daughter of Francis and Bessie Degolier Abbott, and was a graduate of Bradford High School.
Prior to retiring, she had been employed as a cook at several area restaurants, most notably the Surf Club in Bemus Point.
Mrs. McCauley was a member of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church and its New Beginnings Club, and was also a member of Ellery Senior Citizens.
She loved baking, and could always be relied upon to bring everyone’s favorite pie to family gatherings. She also enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are three children: Sandy (John) Strenkoski of North Tonawanda, Ron (Brenda) McCauley of Ashville, and Gary (Liz) McCauley of Bemus Point; seven grandchildren: Christine (Eric) Robinson of Venice, Fla., Andrea (Chris) Bryant of Dewittville, Nichole (Doug) Vanstrom of Lawtons, N.Y., Kelly (Marco) Giansanti of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Jennifer (Brian) McLaughlin of Erie, Pa., David (Nicole) McCauley of Bemus Point, and Jill (Greg) Lardo of Hamburg, N.Y.; eleven great grandchildren: E.J., Johnny, and Madi Grace Robinson, Addison and William Bryant, Sophia and Delaney Vanstrom, Evan and Landon Giansanti, and Hailey and Maggie McLaughlin; a brother, Tom Abbott; and a sister-in-law, Barb (widow of Dick) Abbott, both of Bradford, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. “Bud” McCauley, whom she married July 19, 1946, and who died in 1979; by two brothers: Ray and Dick Abbott; and by two sisters: Dorothy Gough and Mary Lou Crance.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 28. The Rev. Daniel G. McBride will officiate. Visitation will not be observed. To send a message to the family, visit www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
