| | | | John D. Dakin, 88, of High Acres, Bemus Point, formerly of the Bemus Creek Rd., died at 5:35 P.M. Thursday (March 1, 2012) in Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.
He was born Feb. 6, 1924 in Sharon, Conn., the son of Royal B. and Elizabeth St. John Dakin.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946. Following his military service he attended the Colorado School of Mines, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering degree.
Prior to retiring in 1988, he had been a self-employed petroleum engineer consultant in the Rocky Mountain area, Alaska, and New York.
He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #145, Free and Accepted Masons, the Jamestown Shrine Club, Kharram Grotto, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Jamestown Consistory.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Kopf Dakin, whom he married July 27, 1949 in Vernal, Utah; a son, David Dwight (Janet) Dakin of Rochester; three grandchildren: Sarah Dakin of Fairfax County, Va., and John and Peter Dakin, both of Rochester.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Dakin.
A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home by Mt. Moriah Lodge #145, Free and Accepted Masons. Inurnment will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
