Greta E. Swanson, 94, of 153 Newton Ave., formerly of Orr St. Ext., died at 12:10 A.M. Saturday (Jan. 28, 2012) in her home. She was born Sept. 21, 1917 in Marlette, Mich., the daughter of Guy L. and Mary E. Hoard Forbes. In earlier years she had been employed as a cashier at Quality Markets, and had also worked at the Hotel Jamestown. She was a former member of the Cherry Creek United Methodist Church and the Kharamettes. Surviving are two daughters: Donna Lee Fry and Vickie Lynn Conklin; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Jason Ray, who was her primary caregiver. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. “Jack” Swanson, whom she married Jan. 25, 1946 in Jamestown, and who died Feb. 20, 1995; a son, C. Ronald Irland; two brothers: Louis G. and Maxie A. Forbes; and two half sisters: Pauline Stafford and Pearl Carlson. A committal service will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the chapel of Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Haglund will officiate.
