Dixie Johnson, 53, of Hawarden, IA passed away in her home on October 20, 2008. Visitation with family present will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday October 24th 2008 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday October 25th at Peace Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, IA. Dixie Delinda Huebner was born in Hawarden, Iowa on March 2nd, 1955 to Walter (Pete) and Johanna (Bultman) Huebner. She attended West Sioux High School where she held several Track and Field records. She attended the University of Iowa where she received her B.S.N. in nursing. She married Dr. Richard (Dick) Johnson in 1977.
She began her career in the neonatal intensive care unit at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, IA. In 1981 she began to devote her time to raising her family. As her children grew she returned to the nursing field as a registered nurse at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, IA, Alcester Home Health Care in Alcester, SD, and Mica Hill Estates in Hawarden IA. She loved to spend time with her family, including her granddaughter, Jaidyn, and in her flower and vegetable gardens.
Survivors include her husband Dick; a daughter, Ashley and John Schempp and their daughter Jaidyn (Maple Grove, MN); sons, Aaron and Holly Johnson (St. Paul, MN), Adam and Amelia Johnson (Belle Plaine, MN), Andrew Johnson (Ames, IA), and Alan Johnson (Ames, IA); father, Walter (Pete) Huebner (Hawarden, IA); brother, Dallas and Ardis Huebner (Hawarden, IA); sisters, Dee and Tom Bertram (Sioux City, IA) and Deb and Mike Miller (Ankeny, IA); brother-in-law, Jim Farrell (Spirit Lake, IA); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Johanna; sister, Dawn (Huebner) Adams; niece infant Jill Adams; brother-in-law, Dick Adams; and sister, Delphine Farrell.
The family prefers memorials to the Peace Lutheran Church Medical Fund.
