| | | HAWARDEN, IOWA- FRANCES A. BATCHELDER, 99, of Rapid City, formerly of Hawarden, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Clarkson Mountain View Health Care Center in Rapid City.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Frances Antoinette Batchelder was born March 8, 1909 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Ella Green. She graduated from Hawarden High School and taught in a one room school house in Iowa and South Dakota.
She married Leo Batchelder on June 28, 1930 in the Congregational Church in Yankton, SD and they spent their married life farming in Sioux County, Iowa. While living in Hawarden Frances was employed at Millers Flower Shop and Hirschman’s K and K.
She is survived by her three sons, Lloyd and wife Irene of Rapid City, SD, Robert and wife Merlene also of Rapid City, and James and wife Carol of Hawarden; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 3 step great-granddaughters; and 3 step great-great-grandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; brother, Dick; and sister, RoseMae.
Memorials may be directed to the Clarkson Mountain View Healt Care Center in Rapid City.
