| | | Rock Valley, IA: Nelda Pettersen, 54, of Rock Valley, died due to a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 11 am Friday at United Reformed Church, Doon, IA. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. Larry Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday with the family present 6:30-8 pm Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. www.porterfuneralhomes.com
Nelda Jane Boer was born March 26, 1954 at LeMars, IA daughter of Clarence and Frances (DeKam) Boer. She attended Rock Valley Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1972, Northwest Iowa Tech School at Sheldon in 1973 and also diagnosed with Hodgkins disease in the fall of 1973. She moved to Sioux Falls and worked at Ted Tufty Dodge for 22 years. Nelda married Bob Pettersen on September 24, 1994 at Sioux Falls. They lived in Sioux Falls until moving to Rock Valley in July of 2000. Nelda loved reading, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. She also enjoyed sunrise and sunsets and enjoyed their home that was recently remodeled by loving friends and family.
Nelda is survived by her husband, Robert of Rock Valley; daughter, Nicole Joy Pettersen, Rock Valley; 2 sons, Jim (Kelly) Pettersen, Greg Pettersen all of Madison, SD; grandson, Caleb Pettersen; her mother, Frances Boer of Rock Valley; sisters-in-law, Doris (Arnie) Timmer of Ellsworth, MN and Paulette Mangold of Parkston, SD; mother-in-law, Shirley Pettersen of Parkston, SD; many nieces and nephews, Jody (Don) Kramer of Ellsworth, MN, Phil Timmer of Rock Valley, Chris (Jess) Timmer of St. Cloud, MN, Matt (Polly) Timmer of Ellsworth, MN, Jenny (Aaron) Zylstra of Ashton, IA, Holly (Derek) Sammons of Steen, MN, Cody Mangold of Parkston, SD Kara (Gary) Barnes of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Boer; infant brother, Nelvin Jay Boer; brother, John Edward Boer.
