| | | Rock Valley, Iowa – Darrell Van Den Berg, 73, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at his home in Rock Valley surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Mark Beernink will officiate. Visitation will begin noon Friday with family present from 6:30 – 8 pm at Trinity Christian Reformed Church.
Darrell Lloyd Van Den Berg was born April 3, 1935 at Rock Valley. He was raised by his grandparents, Bert and Winnie (Hubers) Van Den Berg. Darrell attended Rock Valley Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1952. Darrell married Esther Aberson on September 2, 1958 at Rock Valley. Together they lived at Rock Valley where Darrell worked for Kooima Machine for 13 years before being in sales for several companies for 47 years. Darrell always had a great sense of humor, enjoyed both singing and listening to music, and was active at the Senior Center. He was a member of Valley Male Chorus for 18 years, was a Sunday School Teacher, and Cadets Counselor. Darrell especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Esther; 3 sons: Brandon (Arlis) Van Den Berg and their children: Sarah, Jeremy and Stacie all of Rock Valley, David (Amy) Van Den Berg and their children: Jamie and Bruce all of Lantana, FL and Jeff Van Den Berg of West Palm Beach, FL; 3 daughters: Rachel (Tony) Jansma and their children: Erica, Tony and Danica, Lisa (Jim) DeJong and their children: Zachary, Derek, Jessica and Gavin all of Manhattan, MT, Andrea (Paul) Van Ginkel and their children: Samuel, Jacob, Emily and Eli all of Rock Valley; special uncle and aunt, Dick and Winifred Altena of Sioux Center, IA.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bert and Winnie Van Den Berg; son, Bruce; and granddaughter, Kelsey Van Den Berg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sioux County Cheers/Hospice.
