Lila Mae (Schiefen) Harry, 76 of Hawarden, IA passed on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at her home. Per Lila’s wishes, private family burial services will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, conducted by Porter Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Lila was born July 18, 1932 in Hawarden, the daughter of George and Vera (Yates) Schiefen. She attended Hawarden Public School. On January 9, 1951, she married Robert N. Harry at Vermillion, SD. They made their home in Hawarden, where she was employed at Tom’s Café, Otis Radio and later provided ironing services to people in the community.
In 1952 and 1954 sons, Lee and Ray were born. Lila was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hawarden and a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Family includes: Lee Harry and Cindy Groom-Harry of Ireton, IA; Ray Harry and Myrna Schelling of LeMars, IA; Harold Lloyd Schiefen and Wayne Ege of Casselberry, FL; Fern (Schiefen) O’Connell of Sun City Ctr., FL; Carol (Schiefen) and Don Crouch of Pahrump, NV; sister-in-law, Evie Harry of Hawarden, IA; niece, Tammy (Crouch) Scherer of Basalt, CO and other nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren and great grandchildren include: Bobbi, Chad and Avery Laipple of Derby, KS; Carin, Jeremy, Jordyn, Rylee and Carter Griffith of Sioux Falls, SD, and two step-grandsons, Jimmy and Troy Vande Kieft and families.
She was preceded in death by her parents: husband Robert in 1994; brother, Kenneth Schiefen; sister, Vivian (Schiefen, Vander Helm) Hedden; and daughter-in-law, Verna (Vande Kieft) Harry.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Siouxland, who made it possible for Lila to spend her last days at home with her family.
