Ralph Harold Bruget born November 7, 1915 was the second child of Rasmus Fredrik and Helen Maggi Bruget. He attended Lone Star School in Yankton County, SD eight years and graduated from Irene High School in 1934. He was a student at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD two years, but after the death of his father, September 21, 1937 came home to help his mother manage the family farm. In 1940 Ralph’s family purchased and moved to Dr. J.A Neill farm 4 ½ miles north of Hawarden, IA where Ralph and his brother Norman, farmed with their mother Helen until 1947.
Ralph married Harriett Ashmore on January 19, 1946. He became a salesman for Kaiser-Frazier Autos in Denver, CO for a short time and then in 1950 sold life insurance from Bismarck, ND being transferred to Rapid City, SD. In 1952 Ralph moved his family back to Hawarden and worked for Mallette Electric, then buying Hout Plumbing & Heating in 1955, changing the name to Bruget Plumbing & Heating and working until his retirement in 1980.
Ralph & Harriett had four children; daughters Jaylene & Deborah, and twin sons Ronald & Raymond.
Following his wife Harriett’s death in September 1992 Ralph married Virginia Robertson, who had also lost her spouse. Virginia has one son Dennis, and four daughters, Judy, Sylvia, Tylene, and Trenna.
Ralph is preceded in death by his wife Harriett and his son Ronald. He is survived by his daughter Jaylene and husband Alex Pirro of Santa Ana, CA, daughter Deborah and husband Thomas Leckband of Sioux Falls, SD, son Raymond Bruget of Billings MT, sister Helen & husband Ralph Gregg of Hawarden, IA, brother Don & wife Gunn Bruget of Palm Desert, CA, wife Virginia and her children, many grand and great-grand children, nieces, and nephews.
Ralph was an avid fisherman, gardener, card player, and cook. His gardens always overflowed with produce that he gladly shared with family and friends. Many sought an invitation to enjoy and learn the art of his grill masterpieces, even his son-in-law Tom, who never really caught-on to the art.
Ralph, as many from his generation, was strong for his family and always placed the needs of those close to him above his own. His sometimes tough exterior was always overshadowed by a caring love that touched many lives. At the time of his death he was looking forward to “going Home” and expressed a closeness to his Lord, saying “he didn’t want to keep Jesus waiting.”
