| | | Inwood, IA - Emma Baatz, 89, of Inwood, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Avera-McKennnan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 11 am Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Inwood. Burial at Richland Cemetery, Inwood. Rev. John Wolf officiating. Viewing will be Wednesday until 5 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Inwood and visitation at the church with family present 6-8 p.m.
Emma Alvina Ranschau was born April 24, 1917 south of Rock Valley, daughter of John and Johanna (Lahn) Ranschau. She married William “Willie” Baatz on November 28, 1939. Together they farmed SE of Inwood beginning in 1943. Willie died on April 25, 1970. Emma moved into Inwood in 1978. She was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and it’s Ladies Aid and Love Days Quilting Club; enjoyed playing cards; braiding rugs and quilting; gardening; and visiting with family and friends.
Emma is survived by 3 sons, Lloyd Baatz of Indianapolis, IN, Edwin (Jan) Baatz of Inwood, Leroy (Judy) Baatz of Sault Sainte Marie, MI; 2 daughters, Dorothy Markle of Canton, SD, Audrey Baatz of Emmetsburg, IA; 3 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Alma Perry of Milwaukee, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; infant son, William; daughter, Dolores Baatz; brothers, William, Karl, Herman, John, and Henry Ranschau; infant sisters, Christina and Anna Ranschau; sisters, Elsie Smith, Minnie Pulscher, and Meta Baatz.
