Inwood, IA- Gertrude “Gert” Blankespoor, 85, formerly of Rock Valley, IA passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Fellowship Village, Inwood. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Inwood Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, at 9 a.m. Saturday. Reverend Robert Timmer and Reverend Rich Kooistra will officiate. Visitation will begin at noon, Friday at Porter Funeral Home, Inwood and will continue with the family present from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Inwood Christian School or Fellowship Village.

Gertrude Jennett Kempema was born on August 21, 1921 to Charles and Sophie (Meendering) Kempema in Rock Valley. She was united in marriage to John E. Blankespoor on June 18, 1941 on a farm north west of Rock Valley. Together they farmed southwest of Rock Valley on the Blankespoor homestead until moving east of Inwood where they farmed from 1958 until retiring back to Rock Valley in 1982. John passed away March 8, 1996. Gert moved to Fellowship Village Apartments January 22, 2001 and to Fellowship Village January 12, 2002.

She is survived by her children: Shirley Kollis of Inwood, Edwin (Mary) Blankespoor of Rock Valley, Harriet (Gene) Potoka of Chicago, IL, Charlene (Bill) Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, Dick Blankespoor of Inwood, Nelvina (Harold) VanVoorst of Rock Valley, Henry Lee (Judy) Blankespoor of Inwood, Randall (Shonna) Blankespoor of Rock Valley, Myron (Denise) Blankespoor of Inwood; daughter-in-law, Darla (Kevin) Vaandragger of Sheldon; 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; sisters: Hermina (Joe) Hall of St. Louis, MO, Margaret (Art) VanOtterloo of Hull.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John E. Blankespoor; son, Curtiss Blankespoor; son-in-law, Cornie Kollis; grandchildren: Sally Kollis Schelling and Chad Kollis; brothers: Ray Kempema and John Kempema.
