| | | Rock Valley, IA – Weber Burgers, 89, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at First Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Reverend Mike Van Hamersveld will officiate. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation will be Friday with the family present from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Weber was born March 14, 1916 to George and Wilma (Zylstra) Burgers north of Canton, SD. He attended various country schools in Northwest Iowa and South Dakota. Weber graduated from the eighth grade at the Klondike School. He began working on the family farm. Weber was united in marriage to Jane Van Oort on January 15, 1942 near Larchwood, IA. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Rock Valley where they purchased Burgers Blacksmith and Welding which Weber operated for 28 years. He then worked for Kooima Machine until his retirement. Weber served on the Rock Valley City Council for 18 years, served as a volunteer Fireman on the Rock Valley Fire Department for 31 years and a member of the Commercial Club for 28 years. Weber was active in the First Reformed Church as an Elder and Deacon. He was a volunteer for Hope Haven Wheel Chair Ministries. He and Jane were Foster Parents to several children. Weber enjoyed fishing and gardening during his retirement years and enjoyed his family and loved to tease his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Weber entered Valley Manor in June of 2002. Jane died March 23, 2004.
Survivors include: a daughter, Wanda Burgers of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 sons: Jerry (Glenda) Burgers of Rock Valley and Conrad (Lu Ann) Burgers of Humboldt, IA; 9 grandchildren: Rachel (Deric) Langenhorst, Sara (Chris) Shuey, Leah (Todd) Steenhoven, David Miller, Ben Miller Anna Miller, Emily Burgers, Allison Burgers and Lauren Burgers; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Marjorie) Burgers of Inwood; 4 sisters: Minnie Vanden Top of Canton, SD, Jennie (Clinton) Clark of Clark, SD, Grace (Dick) Boeve of Jasper, MN and Wilma (Jim) Koedam of Doon, IA; brothers-in-law: Albert (Janet) Van Oort of Rock Valley, Henry (Myrna) Van Oort of Rock Rapids, IA, Arnold (Marianne) Van Oort of Ashley, ND; sister-in law, Harriet Kaizer Thompson of Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jane; a brother, Neal Burgers; sisters: Bertha Van Englenhoven, Nellie Van Den Hul and Tillie Berner Olson.
