| | | Hudson, SD – Simon W. Bakker, 70, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Hillcrest Care Center, Hawarden. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Hudson, SD. Reverend Nancy Jacobson will officiate. Burial will be at Eden Cemetery, Hudson. Visitation will be 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at Porter Funeral Home, Hudson.
Simon was born March 11, 1934 to Tunis and Aldena (Beers) Bakker in Inwood, IA. He was united in marriage to Marlys Hoover on November 13, 1954 in Hudson. Together they lived near Rock Rapids, IA before moving to farm near Hudson. Simon recently worked at Alkota in Alcester from the mid 80’s thru 2001. Marlys died September 13, 2001. Simon enjoyed hunting, the Black Hills, his dog, Lady and especially spending time with his family.
He is survived by 3 daughters: Karma Bakker and her special friend, Ed McMillan of Alcester, SD, Diane (Chuck) Frieberg of Yankton, SD and daughter-in-law, Cindy Bakker of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 sons: Tim (Susan) Bakker of Hudson and Brian Bakker of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Guy (Telma) Bakker and sister, Gertrude (Cornelius) Havelaar all of Canton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlys; daughter, Julie Bakker; sisters: Teresa Bakker and Grace Beadle.
