Rock Valley, IA – Lorena Brown, 81, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at Pleasant Acres Care Center, Hull, IA. Funeral service will be 1:30p.m. Monday at Pioneer United Methodist Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery, Inwood. Rev. Jerry Robertson will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 3 – 5:00 p.m. with an Order of Eastern Star Service beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Lorena was born June 20, 1923 to John and Adrianna “Jen” (Brink) Menning in Harrison, SD. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Brown on December 8, 1942. After Lloyd returned from WW II, the couple farmed southwest of Inwood for 19 years. They moved to Rock Valley in 1964. Lloyd died August 26, 1965. Lorena worked as a nurse’s aid at Valley Manor for 15 years. She was active in the Foster Grandparent Program, a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. Lorena enjoyed working with Foster Grandparent and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons: Donald (Wandra) Brown of Tucson, AZ and Wayne Brown and his special friend, Rogene McGuire of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Mary Jo (Ben) Mathison of Rock Valley, IA and their children: Sylvia Mathison, Heather (John) Walbran and Michelle Mathison; daughter, Sylvia (Kent) Pruismann of Rock Valley, IA and their children: Stacie (Taylor) Forsberg, Jill (Troy) Eicher, Kelley Pruismann and Mark Pruismann; daughter, Jan (Ray) Witte of Shell Lake, WI and their children Rebecca (Matt) Sullivan and Scott (Tennille) Witte; brother, Carl (Bette) Menning of Alta, IA and sister-in-laws: Gladys Coffin of LeMars, IA and Shirley Skadsen of Sioux Falls, SD and brother-in-law: Bill Gist of Wheatland, MO.


She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lloyd.
