| | | Canton, SD: Katherine Brinkman, 77, of Canton, formerly of Rock Valley, died Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Canton Good Samaritan Center. Funeral Service will be 11 am Monday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation with family will be 3-4:30 pm Sunday at Porter Funeral Home.
Katherine was born September 24, 1930 at Rock Valley, daughter of Gerrit and Ann (Vander Schaaf) Gerritsen. She married Peter Brinkman on September 7, 1949 at Luverne, MN. Together they lived in Rock Valley where she was a waitress at Warren’s Café and later worked as a housekeeper at the Valley Manor Nursing Home. Katherine also sold Avon for many years and was a foster grandparent for Hope Haven for 7 years. She liked to listen to country music, playing bingo and cards, and enjoyed her cats. Her husband, Pete died May 11, 1989. Katherine moved to the Canton Good Samaritan six years ago.
Katherine is survived by 2 sons, Henry (Mary) Brinkman of Canton, Gary Brinkman of Sioux Center, IA; 2 daughters, Janice (Wilmer) Faber of Inwood, IA, Lorraine (Chuck) Kellen of Brandon, SD; brother, Gerrit Jr. (Toley) Gerritsen of Sioux City, IA; sister, Theodora “Teddy” Williamson of Centerville, SD; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerrit and Ann; husband, Pete; brother, Anthony “Tony” Gerritsen; and grandson, Jeff Sandbulte.
