| | | Rock Valley, IA: Fanny Mae Boon, 73, died Friday, March 7, 2008 at Hegg Memorial Hospital. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Wednesday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. Gene Vis officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday with the family present from 6:30-8 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Fanny Mae Haan was born May 19, 1934 near Luverne, MN, the daughter of Jake and Gertrude (Scheer) Haan. After graduating from Hills, MN High School, she worked at banks in Luverne and Sioux Falls. Fanny Mae married Elmer on September 17, 1954 at the Christian Reformed Church in Hills, MN. Fanny Mae lived with her sister Nel in Arkansas and Virginia, and later moved back home with her parents while Elmer and Nel’s husband, Marvin served in Korea. Fanny Mae and Elmer lived in Rock Valley where she worked at the Rock Valley Creamery as a bookkeeper. They then moved to a farm west of Doon, IA, where Elmer Dean, Jackie, and Dan were born. Tammy and Terry were born after the family moved into a house built in Rock Valley in 1964. Elmer bought into a feed and seed business and Fanny Mae helped with egg grading and delivery for many years. She later worked at the Foreign Candy Company in Hull. Fanny Mae had a love for flower gardening that she inherited from her father. Soon after building their new home in 2000, Fanny began suffering from several health issues.
Grateful for sharing life with her is her husband Elmer; her 5 children, Elmer Dean (Lori) Boon of Rock Valley; Jackie Hanson of Salem, OR; Dan (Julie) Boon of Sioux Falls; Tammy (Dean) Sybesma of Manhattan, MT; Terry (Dana) Boon of Sioux Falls; her 12 grandchildren: Austin and Janie Boon, Jacob and Ryan Vande Griend, Nicole, Valarie and Justin Boon, Cassie, Tessa and Shayna Sybesma, Davis and Brooks Boon; 4 step-grandchildren; Jamie, Jessie, Jacob and Jared Flanigan; brother: Richard Haan of Flagstaff, AZ, Peter (Alice) Haan of Brandon, SD; sister, Nel (Marvin) Vanden Bosch of Rock Valley.
She was preceded in death by parents, Jake and Gertrude Haan, and sister-in-law, Pat Haan
