Rock Valley, IA – Gertrude Brummel, 92, died Monday, December 3, 2007 at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Thursday at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery, Hull before the service Thursday. Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Rock Valley Christian School.

Gertrude Dykstra was born November 19, 1915 to Ed and Henrietta (Vis) Dykstra in Hull, IA. She attended Perkins School. Gertrude was united in marriage to Albert Brummel on February 9, 1938 in Perkins, IA. They moved south of Rock Valley in 1941. Albert died February 17, 1952. After her kids left home, Gert worked at Hull Pharmacy for 15 years. Gertrude moved to Rock Valley in 1970 and then to Valley Manor in March of 1999. She was active in ladies society groups at Calvin Christian Reformed Church and Peace Lutheran Church. Gertrude enjoyed knitting, reading, shopping, traveling and watching her grandchildren play baseball.

She is survived by her sons: Andrew (Marilyn) Brummel of North English, IA, Edwin (Natalie) Brummel of Sioux Center, IA and Larry (Maria) Brummel of McGregor, IA; daughter, Aletha (Duane) Vande Griend of Hull, IA; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Dick (Ann) Dykstra, Arthur (Eldoris) Dykstra all of Hull and Harry (Lorie) Dykstra of Canton, SD; sister, Stella Hoekstra of Sheldon, IA; sisters-in-law: Jennie Dykstra of Rock Valley and Grace H. Dykstra of Hull.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; infant daughter, Helaine Kay; infant granddaughter, Susan Brummel; one infant brother; two infant sisters; brothers: Herm and Pete Dykstra; sisters: Ena Dykstra and Jeanette Steinstra.
