Joyce Ann was born October 18, 2011 in Iowa City, Iowa to Fabian and Laureen (Hoch) Ripperger. She attended Bauer School and Melcher High School. She married Carl Farrell in 1954 and they were blessed with five children: Carleen, Allen, Marina, Linda, and Mike.

In June of 1982 she married Jerry Fortune. They enjoyed music, traveling and family. Joyce and Jerry shared 26 years of marriage before his death in 2008.

Joyce was an extraordinary person and super mom. She loved her children, and grandchildren, and family. Joyce was a hard worker and did whatever she could to provide for her family. She was a waitress at Shorty’s Steakhouse, worked at the Drug Store, helped Dar & Scott at the Garden Center, read water-meters, retired from 3M, and was the 3M Retirees Club Treasurer.

Joyce worked in the concession stand for Melcher-Dallas Athletic Boosters & student council. She was also the president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was very involved with her church. She was in the church choir, Altar & Rosary, and was on the Liturgy Auxiliary Committee. She was proud to be from Melcher-Dallas and loved being part of the community, volunteering where she could.

Joyce had many hobbies; she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidering, and quilting. She made great pies and loved to have company. She loved to play games with family and friends, and she loved to win.

Joyce passed away November 13, 2011 at the Legacy Lodge in Chariton. She was preceded in death by her parents: Fabian and Laureen Ripperger; husbands: Carl Farrell and Jerry Fortune; daughter, Carleen Mason; and brother, Everett Ripperger.

Joyce is survived by her children: Allen Farrell, Marina (Moby Dittmer) Weis, Linda (Joe) Snook, and Mike (Donna) Farrell; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and siblings: Yvonne (Leonard) Dhabalt, Daryl (Leona) Ripperger, Judy (George) Westendorf, Elaine (John) Harty, Leon (Judy) Ripperger, Ivan (Michele) Ripperger, and Brian (Geri) Ripperger. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
