Lloyd was born September 4, 1929 in Chariton, Iowa to Vernie and Elsie (Smith) Mullins. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army during WW II, serving in Germany. Lloyd married Norma Rodgers on June 5, 1949 on the Mullins’ Family Farm. Lloyd and Norma were blessed with two children, Glenna and Greg.

Lloyd worked for Hy-Vee. He started as a stock boy in 1961. He then became store manager in 1965 until 1977. Lloyd returned to Chariton as Director of Distribution and was elected Assistant Vice-President of Distribution in 1984. Lloyd was elected in 1989 to Vice-President of Distribution. He also served on the Hy-Vee Board of Directors. He was a member of Rotary Club, Chariton Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge,
Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Pheasants Forever, Associated Grocers of Iowa, Ducks Unlimited and Royal Order of Jesters. He was a businessman, but a truly a farmer at heart. He enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, fishing trips, and trail rides to: South Dakota, Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas. He rode the Mormon Trail across Iowa. He was involved with the Florida Guardian ad Litem, which is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of abused and neglected children in Florida.

Lloyd passed away October 4, 2011 at the Taylor House Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma in January of 2011; and siblings: Maxine Sellers, Marie Mullins, and Darl Mullins. He is survived by his children, Glenna (Dan) Grother of Altoona, and Greg (Karin) Mullins of Mt. Vernon, WA; five grandchildren: Ryan (Carissa) Grother, Danielle (Barry) O’Neill, Steven Grother, Nick and Stella Mullins, and two sisters, Janet Klinker of Ankeny and Mary Richards of Hampton.

The family will forever appreciate the unconditional love, friendship and care given to Lloyd by Cindy Sinclair. Also, thanks for the exceptional care from the staff and friends at Courtyard Estates in Pleasant Hill.
