Emery Franklin McDonald, third child of Thomas C. & Hazel (Duckworth) McDonald was born November 8, 1929 in Russell, Iowa. He moved to Council, Idaho with his family and started school there. They returned to Iowa he completed schooling at Center Country School. He gave his heart to the Lord as a child and never went back on Him. He attended Cedar Valley Church and later transferred his membership to the Church of the Nazarene in Chariton. There he served in various capacities such as Sunday School Teacher, board member, Children’s Church worker, and sang specials in church with his wife and sons.

On July 23, 1950 he married Davidene E. Roberts. God blessed them with 4 wonderful sons: Emery Lee, Robert Lynn, Stephen Paul, and James Franklin. After 35 years of farming, he and his wife moved to downtown Denver, Colorado, where they managed a Senior Citizen Apartment building for 10 years. There they helped start a church service on Thursday night for the tenants and was also active in the Outreach of Love Ministry, which helped the homeless people in the Denver area. Upon retiring in 1996, they moved back to Chariton to the home they had purchased. He enjoyed his garden and yard. He especially enjoyed growing prize tomatoes. He also drove for several Amish, mostly Willie Gingerich and his carpenter crew for 12 years. He enjoyed this very much.
