The son of George and Margaret Carter Phillips, W.W. Phillips founded the funeral home in 1907. The first funeral home was located in Waterloo near the family home and their former sawmill business. During that first year, he and his staff conducted 17 funerals.

Art Phillips, W.W. Phillips' nephew, joined the family business in 1934. In October 1935, Art bought the house at 1004 South Seventh Street in Ironton and converted it into the funeral home area residents know today. The funeral home in Waterloo was closed in 1944.

Tom Phillips, Art's son, entered the business in the spring of 1960. In 1982, Tom and his family purchased the Hayes Funeral Home in Ironton, and they continue to operate both businesses.

Today, the Phillips' family legacy continues as David Phillips, Tom's son, joined the business in 1990. David is a graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and holds national certification and a national embalmers' license. Michael Phillips, David's son, is currently attending college and will be the next generation to continue the family legacy.
