Francis (Frank) Grimmie, of Shamrock Heights, Centerville, Iowa passed away peacefully at home, Monday, November 3, 2008 at 5:45 PM. His soul mate of 14 years, Valerie Kay Hunt, was at his side through a brief but very hard battle with cancer and was by his side at the time of his passing.

Frank served in the United States Army with the 399th Infantry Regiment. He was stationed in Europe and served as a light Machine Gunner, an Auto Mechanic Instructor, a light trucker driver and a Dispatcher Clerk in Motor Vehicles. He was a Private First Class and served for two years during World War II.

He returned to New Jersey where he met and eventually married his wife, Joan Kathleen Lyons, she preceded him in death.

Frank was born October 20, 1924 in West Berlin, New Jersey. He was 84 years young at his time of passing.

Frank worked in Industrial Engineering until he retired. His passion was spending time and doing short travels with Valerie, reading, fishing, hiking and traveling.

He was blessed with three children; Paul Grimmie of California, Kathy of Portland, Oregon and Jane Hayes of Florida, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his extended family. Number one his soul mate; Valerie Kay Hunt, followed by his stepchildren; Sharon and Bill Murphy of Washington, D.C., Nancy Hunt and Dennis Dove of Mystic, Iowa, Steve and Becky Hunt of Kinston, North Carolina. He has nine step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. All of us loved him dearly and there will be a great void in our everyday life. But we will carry him spiritually in our hearts for the rest of our lives. God bless you Frank, we are glad you are finally at peace.

We want to thank all of the women that came into his home for personal and medical needs through his bout with his illness. God Bless You All.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Johnston and Pastor Roger Goodson officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa. A visitation will be held Thursday at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
