Luther Stowe, Jr.
Services for Luther Stowe, Jr., 78, were held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Rayville with Rev. Harold Spillers officiating. Burial followed in Greer Cemetery, Rayville under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home in Rayville.
Luther Stowe, Jr. was born on January 22, 1930 and passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008 after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Stowe in his early years was a row crop farmer, raised cows, and worked for Boeuf River Soil Conservation in Richland Parish as a dozer operator. Later he went into business for himself as a Land Clearing Contractor and did site prep work for large timber companies. He purchased and developed cattle ranches in Texas, Louisiana, and Missouri, which he was very successful. He enjoyed going to church, listening to gospel music, riding horses and looking at his cattle, he loved to read and visit with friends and family. He spent as much time as he could with his wife and children. He was the patriarch of his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lena Rene` Stowe Barbee. In whom he never got over the loss.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Evelina Lively Stowe of Rayville; 2-sons, Stevie Allen Stowe of Glenmora, LA and Luther J. “L.J.” Stowe of Rayville; 9-grandchildren, Scott Whitaker, Liza Brakefield Hiraoka, Leslie Kay Stowe, Nathan J. Stowe, Stevie Allen Stowe II, Lucas Jordan Stowe, Madison Evelina Stowe, MaKenzie Anna Stowe, and Logan Luther Jay Stowe; 7-great grandchildren, Preslea` Mariah Stowe, Gabriel Luther Calloway, Leah Rene` Berwick, Matthew Weston Berwick, Joseph Charles Hiraoka, Gracie Rene` Stowe, and John Scott Whitaker; 4-brothers, Dennis Wayne Stowe, Alvin Stowe, Calvin Stowe, and Bobby Stowe; 2-sisters, Evelyn Gwin and Dorothy Dove; special niece, Christy Carter; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Hew Hiraoka, Stevie Stowe II, Nathan Jay Stowe, Lucas Stowe, Scott Whitaker, and David Stowe.
Honorary Pallbearers were Walter Downes, Pat Golliher, and James Nance.
