| | | |  | IRON MOUNTAIN — Marion E. Carefelle, 81, of 511 Pelham St. in Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1927, in St. Ignace, daughter of the late Charrick and Idella (Fink) Shirk. She was a graduate of Manistique High School and spent two years in college pursuing her nursing degree.
Marion married James Carefelle on Oct. 27, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie. They have resided in this area since 1958.
She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Marion’s church involvement included the United Methodist Women (UMW) and administrative board member. She was also a member of the Lydia Circle, Christian Women, church choir and served as an usher. Marion enjoyed dancing, golfing, sewing, camping, fishing and spending time at the camp in Amasa. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Marion is survived by her husband, James; three children, Jo Ann Richer of Seattle, Wash., Terri (Jacquin) Brown of Austin, Texas and James (Terri) Carefelle of Blaine, Wash.; a sister, Sadie (Peter) O’Neil of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Jesse (Kelly), Curt (LeAnn) and Melissa Richer, Nicholas, Candice (James), Katherine, James III and Beau Carefelle and great-grandchildren, Ross, Grace, Holly, Wyatt and Harley.
Marion was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain.
Memorial services will follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Rev. Debbie Thomas will officiate
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
