| |  | | Joseph E. Gavin, 72, of South Burlington died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at home. He was born in Windsor on Sept. 23, 1935, the son of the late Joseph E. Gavin and the late Nellie (Daudelin) (Gavin) Estey. He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1954. Joe was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 and was a member of the American Legion Post 1. On July 22, 1961, he was married in Windsor to Beverly A. Blaine. Joe was employed with IBM from 1965 with retirement in 1992. He was also employed 13 years as a part-time school bus driver for the South Burlington School District. Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, deer hunting, fishing, reading and travel. Joe is survived by his wife Beverly of 46 years; two daughters, Barbara E. Wright of Essex Junction and Mary A. Elkins and her husband, Bert, of Richmond; his grandchildren, Joseph and Michael Elkins, and Heather A. Wright; his brother, Michael F. Gavin of Rutland, and his sister, Rebecca J. Alsop of Rutland; a sister-inlaw, Elizabeth A. Blaine of Williston, brother-inlaw, Robert N. Blaine of Essex Junction, and brother-in-law Arthur J. Blaine and his wife, Loretta, of South Burlington, and brother-in-law Bernard F. Blaine of Windsor, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, David Gavin, his stepfather, Edgar Estey, brothers-inlaw, Bruce J. Blaine and William L. Blaine. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in the Ready Funeral Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington, with interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery.
