Mr. Leland William Harris, 88, retired from Monsanto Chemical Co. and resident of West Avenue, died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. Thomas Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Bob Vasser officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin America Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Tom J. Harris and Alma Cothran Harris. He served in the military during World War II. Mr. Harris was a member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Johns Harris of Columbia and a brother, Charles E. Harris of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Harris in 2008.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Andrews, Buddy Smith, David Wise, A.C. Harlan, David Smith, Mike Westmoreland, Enoch George and J.B. West, Jr.
