Margaret (Peg) and Lyle (Red) Thompson's lives were forever changed for the better on August 18, 1945 when their beautiful blue-eyed baby boy, Monte Lynn, was brought into this world.
Monte graduated from Cylinder High School where he was crowned Homecoming King in 1963. After graduation, he continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College. He then began his farming career on the family farm where he lived and where his life was forever changed for the better when his son, Scott, and daughter, Heidi, were born.
On March 24th 2000 Monte's life changed once again when he married his wife Janis. They made their life together on the farm that they loved so much for thirteen years.
Monte was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew, Iowa, and was a current vice-chairman of the church. He served over a decade on the Farmer's Mutual Board of Directors and also served on the Cylinder Coop Board of Directors. He touched the lives of all area schoolchildren by taking a day out of his busy harvest schedule to share his farm and host the annual Farm Safety Day. He personally made sure that each child went home with a pumpkin, a smile, and a lesson learned.
Monte was a man of faith who was kind and generous to all. He was a devoted family man who loved with his whole heart. He was fun-loving and enjoyed music and gatherings of family and friends. He always had a positive attitude and never uttered an unkind word about anyone. Monte loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was steady and strong and was everyone's "constant". Monte wasn't one to ask "What can I do to help?" because he was already doing it.
Monte went to his eternal home on July 9, 2013, at the age of 67. Monte was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Thompson.
Left to treasure his memory is his wife Janis, his mother Peg, his son, Scott (Lynnette) Thompson and their children, Ashley and Tyler, his daughter, Heidi Thompson-Krause and her friend Ron Haisman and Heidiís children, Shelby and Austin, his second family Monica (Scott) Hoch and their children Shay and Erin and Brad Twait, his sister Christy (Dave) White, his brother Jim (Cindy) Thompson, nephews Ryan White, Josh White, nieces Jamie Gavle, and Brett Thompson, sisters-in-law, Shirley (Roger) Moon and their son, Adam (Katie) Malo, and Susan Austin and her sons, Tyler Anderson and Riley (Ashley) Anderson.
Thank you to our rock, the most loving and wonderful man in this world. Even though we have an emptiness in our hearts that will never be filled....we know that Heaven is a better place for having gained this beautiful blue-eyed angel.
