Eldon Edgar Larson, son of Ed and Maggie Maude (Holderness) Larson, was born February 23, 1925, in Albert City, Iowa. As a young child, Eldon’s family moved to the Gillett Grove area. He began his education at Logan Township School and graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1943.
Eldon was united in marriage to Leone Monk on January 25, 1948 in Ruthven, Iowa. To this union three children were born. Eldon and Leone spent a great deal of time at their cabin in Blackduck, Minnesota, where they enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Eldon became known to his family and friends as Bud. He farmed his entire life near Gillett Grove. Bud loved farming and caring for the land. When Bud wasn’t farming he enjoyed fishing and playing cards, especially Euchre, Cribbage and Rummy. He just loved to have fun, whether with family or friends. Bud was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Bud passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Maggie Larson; a daughter, Jane Downey; and brother-in-law, Chester Triggs.
He is survived by his wife, Leone of Ruthven, Iowa; two sons, Robert Larson and his wife, Carla of Ruthven, Iowa; and Richard Larson and his wife, Barb of Ruthven, Iowa; son-in-law, Gary Downey of Des Moines, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Travis Downey, Jocelyn Wunschel, Darci Moran, Brandie Malm, Jared Larson, Zackary Larson, Lance Larson, Jessica Larson, and Sheila Larson; nine great grandchildren, Isaiah, Lucas, Magnolia, Jonah, Hailey, Hannah, Jimmy, Harper and Arianna; sister, Grace Triggs of Spirit Lake, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
